Japanese - Croatian Workshop on Material Science
Institute of Physics, Zagreb - Croatia
06 - 07 October 2011
Welcome Address
Dear participants of the Croatian-Japanese Workshop on Materials Science,
H.E. Yoshio Tamura, Ambassador of Japan,
Dr. Staša Skenžić- Representative of the Ministry of Science,
Directors of the Ruđer Bošković Institute and the Institute of Physics,
Dear guests and friends,
It gives me great pleasure and honor to welcome you at the Institute of Physics in Zagreb on the occasion of the opening of the Croatian-Japanese Workshop on Materials Science. This meeting is organized under the auspices of one of the three current Japanese-Croatian projects on Materials Science and has been generously supported by the Croatian Ministry of Science and the Japan Science and Technology Agency.
The present collaborative project commenced effectively in October last year when the funds for its realization were made available to the Croatian side. As described in the Foreword to the Booklet of Abstracts, we immediately started with an ambitious exchange scheme, but its pace was later hindered by the unfortunate and uncontrollable events in which the participants refrained from travel.
In order to foster the exchange of ideas and scientific information both parties have agreed to organize this Workshop with the aim of recovering the earlier pace and stimulating further collaboration. It is hoped that the workshop will provide these opportunities for the benefit of all project members, and particularly for younger participants at the beginning of their scientific careers.
We wish you a successful meeting and the Japanese delegation an enjoyable stay in Zagreb.
Coordinator of the Workshop
Branko Gumhalter
