Welcome letterfrom Professor Robert Murison
The International Conference on Ulcer Research in Dubrovnik in 2003 was for me a watershed in thinking about the interactions between the brain and the gut. The importance of the meeting lay especially in the interactions between different disciplines and the mutual respect shown by the representatives of those disciplines, both basal and clinical. As at every successful conference, important contributions were presented in plenum, but significant interactions also took place outside the meeting rooms, which have had important consequences for future collaborations.
I have every expectation that the same level of success will be achieved, if not surpassed, at the upcoming International Conference on Gastrointestinal Research to be held in Split in September, 2009. On previous experience, I would strongly recommend this meeting to researchers from all disciplines who are interested in gastrointestinal research.
Best wishes
