About Croatia & Split
The Republic of Croatia is a young, European, parliamentary state with European culture and history. Although it is young state, its people participated, through centuries, in almost all major events of the old continent. We greet you sincerely with a message "Welcome to Croatia!"
Croatia extends from the furthest eastern edges of the Alps in the north-west to the Pannonian lowlands and the banks of the Danube in the east; its central region is covered by the Dinara mountain range, and its southern parts extend to the coast of the Adriatic Sea.
The world you may have believed to be a thing of the past you will find right here. It is a world of beauty, of unspoiled nature, of the charm of town squares, of the taste of wholesome Mediterranean cuisine, of the joy of night strolls unburdened by fears of possible unpleasant surprises and, always, at all times, there are friendly people and an open welcome which instantly eliminates all the barriers, thus making you aware that you have found the place - and that regardless of which part of the country you are in - where you will able to combine business with pleasure. That is Croatia. A country with open frontiers, and simple Custom formalities. It is a country of peace and respect towards its guests. The Croats endeavor to make "Our Beautiful" equally beautiful to those who visit it, and carry with them the best souvenirs when leaving it.
Split is the second largest city in Croatia, and the regional capital of Dalmatia, built inside and around the historical Diocletian's Palace from the third century, included in the UNESCO world heritage list. The people of Split, who are particularly attached to their city and the hill called Marjan overlooking it, will proudly, boast that there is no other place in the world like Split.
The climate of Croatia varies from Mediterranean along the Adriatic coast to continental, inland. The coastal areas have hot and dry summers. Summer temperatures range from 26 to 30 °C in the coastal region.
The city of Split is situated in the warmest region of the northern Mediterranean coast, in the very centre of the Adriatic eastern coast and in the immediate vicinity of the rivers Jadro and Žrnovnica that have been watering it for 1700 years. Its mild climate, with 2600 sunny hours per year, makes it an oasis where, sheltered from the wind, one can enjoy the sun even in wintertime.
